Topshop Unique AW12

It is clear when viewing the Topshop Unique AW12 collection, that military and uniforms were the inspiration behind it. Vastly differing from their SS12 collection a sense of maturity has been added this season. The colour palette couldn't be further apart from the pastel pinks and glistening golds of SS12, as for AW12 dark green shades swamped over. Oversized coats were the key element to the show, alongside woolly knits, laced up ankle boots and dungarees slashed up the front, adding a seductive feel to the collection. For AW12, the Unique girl was marching down the catwalk in a military fashion, but as usual an urban appeal oozed from the wearable collection.

GET THE LOOK: A clean and minimal colour palette is needed to reinterpret the Unique AW12 look. Limit yourself you khaki, muddy browns and black. A sharp tailored jacket will go down a dream worn over the top of a simple cropped top paired with high waisted belted trousers or shorts. Loose waves in your hair can be left un-straightened and leave your lipstick and blusher at home. Lace up boots (heeled optional) and leather gloves will finish your look perfectly. Think sexy hunter.

House of Holland AW12

Henry Holland is one designer to always inject a sense of youth and playfulness into his collections for House of Holland. Neon brights is a trend I have already picked up on for AW12, in contrast to the usual greyness we see around that time of year. At House of Holland, Holland infused these vivid tones in the form of dogtooth prints, clashing stripes and block colours throughout his array of designs. No Holland collection is complete without a dose of cheekiness, and for AW12 it was done so in the form of an orange cap with the slogan, 'Ride It', plastered across the front. Despite the bold range of colours, dungaree dresses and ankle socks, a sophisticated twist has been added to Holland's collection, in the form of knitted cardigans and sharp tailoring. Maybe this season, Holland's girl is growing up.

Sister by Sibling AW12

The Sister by Sibling show was right up my street. The clashing of leopard print with hot pinks and neon oranges created an outlandish explosion of winter wear, only for those who dare to be different. Hairy handbags added a really wild effect, while a countless about of sequins in midnight blue and shiny silver added a party essence to the collection. My favourite aspect without a doubt was the use of pom poms. The pom poms were positioned in a way to imitate ears of creatures, making the collection even more animalistic. Although the wear-ability of one of these looks as a whole may be rather outrageous, if you select a single item, such as the leopard print cardigen which is trimmed with fair isle print, and the clothing becomes very wearable, and desirable indeed.

Jeremy Scott AW12

You simply cannot guess what will appear down the runway in a Jeremy Scott fashion show. His AW12 collection was full to the brim of unexpected motifs and acid tripping colours. The silhouettes strongly reflected the 1970s, with disco-esque dungarees, funky flares teamed with sky scraping platforms. Everyone's favourite rebel, Bart Simpson, was plastered over thigh high leg warmers, hot pants and a matching long sleeve knit to create an incredibly eye catching look. The hair and make up was just as wacky as the clothing. Bobbed hair was crimped to the max, while gems created a mask like shape around the eyes of the model's, which contrasted with the vibrant blue lipstick, resulting in a space like vibe. All in all Scott's collection was as psychedelically futuristic as it gets, whilst channelling the eccentricity of the spaced out seventies.

Feeling Fruity

My two favourite Valentine's day cards I have spotted this year. Both irresistibly cute and both of them featuring fruit. The first one is kitsch and vintage inspired from Urban Outfitters (£3.50) and the second is eye-catching with a home made feel, from another store I love, Lazy Oaf (£2.75). Feel fruity this Valentine's day.

Urban Outfitters Bedding

I came across the home section on the Urban Outfitters website and fell in love with their vibrant and quirky collection of bedding they have available. They stock pillow cases, duvet cases and bed throws that would add a personal touch to any bedroom. The prices range from an affordable £25's for selected throws and pillow cases to a pocket stretching £130's if you want something more detailed. Unfortunately for me, living in a student house, I sleep (uncomfortably) in my springy single bed, so even if I was to dip into my student loan, the patterned throws wouldn't be seen to their full potential. I am however, debating to invest for the future. The Indian inspired, elephant border tapestry throw would do me just nicely.
